Can someone fake a UPS email?

ups.comStrong spoof protection

Strong. ups.com tells receiving mail servers to reject email that fakes an @ups.com address. Scammers usually switch to lookalike domains instead, so check the domain carefully.

Strict. Only the servers ups.com lists may send its email, everything else fails.

DMARC is the rule a domain owner publishes telling mail servers what to do with email that pretends to come from them. The stronger it is, the more likely scammers switch to lookalike domains, which is why the next section matters.

Domain history

How long has ups.com existed?

The Internet Archive first saved a copy of it on 5 June 1997. Scam domains are usually days or weeks old. A sender domain registered recently, pretending to be a company this established, is a strong warning sign.

Can receive email

We check misspellings, look-alike characters, and the UPS name combined with words like “delivery”, “parcel”, “tracking” across common domain endings. A registered lookalike is not proof of a scam: companies often register typos of their own name to protect customers. But you should never trust a message from one.

Know the pattern

Scams using the UPS name

Texts and emails saying a parcel is held until you pay a small redelivery or customs fee are among the most common scams using this name. Check the tracking number yourself on ups.com.

Delivery scams work because almost everyone is expecting a parcel. Real tracking only lives on the courier's own website or app.

A small fee to release your parcel

A text or email says your parcel is on hold and asks for a small payment for redelivery or customs. The amount is tiny on purpose. The payment page is built to capture your card details.

Confirm your address

You are told a delivery failed because your address was incomplete and asked to confirm your details through a link.

Missed delivery card or call

A fake missed-delivery note or voicemail asks you to call a premium-rate number or visit a website to rebook.

Reported UPS scam messages

Step by step

How to check a message that claims to be from UPS

  1. 1

Look at the actual sender address, not just the name. Tap or hover over the name to reveal it. It must end in @ups.com, or a subdomain of one.

  2. 2

Do not use links or phone numbers from the message. Type ups.com into your browser or open the official UPS app, and check your account there.

  3. 3

Slow down when you see urgency, small fees, gift cards, crypto, or requests for codes and passwords. Those are the levers every scam pulls.

  4. 4

Still unsure? Paste the sender address or link into the checker above.

Questions

UPS scam FAQ

What email address does UPS use?

Genuine UPS email comes from addresses ending in @ups.com, or a subdomain of those (for example something@mail.ups.com). An address on any other domain, even one containing "ups", is not UPS.

Can scammers fake an @ups.com email address?

Strong. ups.com tells receiving mail servers to reject email that fakes an @ups.com address. Scammers usually switch to lookalike domains instead, so check the domain carefully.

Are there websites pretending to be UPS?

On 14 October 2026 we checked 142 lookalike domain names and found 36 registered. 16 appear to be owned by UPS or a brand-protection service, 5 are parked or for sale, and 14 could not be linked to UPS while hosting a website or accepting email. A registered lookalike is not proof of a scam, but any message from one deserves suspicion.

What should I do if I clicked a link in a fake UPS message?

Do not enter anything else. If you typed a password, change it at ups.com straight away and turn on two-step sign-in. If you entered card or bank details, call your bank using the number on your card. Then report the message using the guide below.
